Reckon it was sometime in June, ‘round ‘47, down near Eagle Pass. You know that ol' cowboy, James VanDerHorn? Well, he claims he was startled awake by a noise he couldn’t quite place. The ol' boy jumped out of bed, threw on his clothes, and rushed out to the front porch, only to spot a bright light hovering above his barn. James was as confused as a possum in a pear tree, so he made a beeline for the barn, figuring he’d better protect his livestock. Before he knew it, he was bein' pulled towards that glowing light, his horse getting dragged along with him, and he was certain this was the end. Just as he got close, he started feeling dizzy, and next thing he knew, he was out cold.
Come morning, James woke up with a splitting headache and a stomach that wouldn’t settle, thinking it was maybe something he ate. Took him years to piece that whole night together, and truth be told, he still ain’t quite right. Heard the same kind of thing happened to Curley Jefferson out by the lake just last month. Strange times, I tell ya…
